Dr. Jill Moland is a licensed psychologist who is also a retired P.V.S.D. teacher and has worked with children for over 25 years. During her career in education, she received a grant from the Southern Poverty Law Center for her project on “Teaching Social Studies through Diversity”. She also worked as learning therapist at the Learning Clinic for six years, designing enrichment and remediation programs for children in grades K-8. As a school counselor intern, she worked with grades K-8 In the areas of peer mediation, organizational skills, social skills groups, and individual counseling for kids. As a psychologist, she has taught social skills for children ages 5-12 for seven years, and works individually with children, teens, and adults in the areas of anxiety, depression, and stress.
“Dr. Jill,” as her clients call her, has an impressive educational back ground. She earned an A.S. degree from Ventura College which led to teaching preschool for seven years from the age of nineteen. Her B.A. in liberal arts was earned at Cal-Lutheran where she also earned her K-12 teaching credential. Before completing her doctorate, she earned a Master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University in School Counseling K-12 with a second credential in Pupil Personnel Services. Finally, her PsyD was earned from Cal-Southern where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She belongs to the California Psychological Association and the Ventura County Psychologist’s Association.
Her philosophy about children is that each child is a unique individual who has different needs and experiences. She believes that social skills need to be actively taught through hands on experiences delivered with compassion and respect. Children learn through modeling then need to practice what they have learned. Just like reading, math, and sports skills, social skills need to be used on a daily basis.
