"Cured" is a one-hour documentary film that describes the story of a brave group of activists who challenged the American Psychiatric Association and fought the battle to remove Homosexuality as a mental disorder from the DSM. The film chronicles the story of the stigma against gay men and lesbians that was so prevalent in the mental health community during the 1950's through the 1980's, and the lack of science and prejudice that supported those attitudes and policies. The film contains lots of original footage from events of the time, as well as interviews with the activists, psychologists, and psychiatrists who waged the campaign to normalize homosexuality based on their personal stories and research. It is emotionally moving and compelling, and in the end a triumph of reason, science, and the human spirit.
